Field Notes · Dining

Meals that move with your day.

Farm-to-plate cooking, planned around your health and dietary needs — no fixed meal times, just good food when you're ready for it.

More Than A Place To Eat

Farm to plate, built around you.

There's no fixed printed menu — meals are planned around each guest's health and dietary needs, cooked from what's fresh that day. Meals are included in most stay plans (see the Stay page for full board, half board and bed & breakfast options) and are served either at the rooftop restaurant or the riverside deck, depending on the time of day and the weather. That said, a few dishes come up again and again — see below.

Nguruman Specialties

What we're known for

No set menu, but these are the dishes guests ask for by name.

Preparing Munono, a traditional Maasai dish, in bowls at Nguruman Waterfront Resort
Maasai Favourite

Munono

A Maasai favourite meal, regularly served to guests as part of the table here.

Meat roasting over an open fire for babacau, Nguruman's Maasai-style barbecue
Grill Night

Babacau

Barbecue done the Maasai way — a Nguruman signature, best enjoyed by the fire in the evening.

Bone marrow soup being prepared with traditional Maasai herbs at Nguruman Waterfront Resort
House Signature

Bone Marrow Soup

What we're best known for on the table — bone marrow soup simmered with traditional Maasai herbs.

Guests dining at the rooftop restaurant at night, under string lights
01 — The Rooftop

Dinner under the open sky.

The rooftop restaurant sits above the main house, open-air and lit for the evening — the spot for dinner, a drink, or just sitting with the view after a day out on the trails.

Open-Air Evenings
Breakfast laid out on the riverside deck — fresh fruit, toast, coffee and tea
02 — The Riverside Deck

Breakfast, made when you're ready for it.

Nothing is pre-cooked. Coffee, tea, snacks and fresh fruit are laid out on the deck overlooking the river — then you order your hot breakfast whenever you're ready for it, no fixed sitting time.

Made To Order Riverside
Meat grilling on skewers over an open fire
03 — Fireplace & Picnic

Bush dinners, bonfires, and a picnic spot by the water.

An outdoor fireplace and a riverside picnic area give the evenings somewhere to slow down — bonfires and bush dinners can be arranged, weather and river conditions permitting. This is often where the babacau happens.
