Field Notes · About
Family-run, wild at the edges, warm at the centre.
A riverside retreat on the Ewaso Ng'iro, beneath the Nguruman Escarpment, South Rift Valley, Kenya.
Where We Are
Below the escarpment, on the river.
Nguruman Waterfront Resort sits on the Ewaso Ng'iro River, directly beneath the Nguruman Escarpment in Kenya's South Rift Valley — the same ridge you see from every room, the rooftop, and most of the trails nearby.
The host.
This is a family-run resort — you'll likely meet Leonard before you meet the menu. He runs the day-to-day: the rooms, the guiding, and the planning that happens over meals.
Chef Esther Wanyeki.
The kitchen is Esther's. The farm-to-plate cooking, the meals planned around each guest, the no-fixed-menu approach you'll find on the Dining page — that's her running of it.
Eco-tourism, in practice not just in name.
We ask every guest to respect the nature, wildlife, local culture and community guidelines around us — the same request we make of ourselves. It's a working relationship with the land and the community next door, not just a backdrop.
What's Here
One resort, run as one thing.
Rooms, meals, guided activities, and retreat space aren't separate departments here — the same team plans your day over breakfast and cooks your dinner that night.
The land does most of the introducing.
Rooms, meals, and a guide are all one phone call away.
